The Church of Saint John the Baptist in Ruyton XI Towns was built between 1120–1148 as a Chapel of Ease, becoming a parish church around 1230 under John le Strange. Inside, a pillar near the tower bears a carving of a horned head— thought to be the Devil. #Folklore #Shropshire

The Salopian Journal reported that after the execution of two murderers on 6th August 1828, the bodies were cut down, and the hands of said corpses were passed over various individuals as a cure. These people were suffering various ailments. #Folklore #Shropshire

In August 1881, a Madeley man found a shred of paper, sealed with red wax, in his kitchen chimney. It contained the following words 'I charge all witches and ghosts to depart from this house, in the name of great Jehovah and Alpha and Omega' I wonder if it worked? #Folklore

St Non's Well sits on the cliff top, along the coastal path from St David's, Pembrokeshire. It is here that St Non reputedly gave birth to her son, later to become St David, in the 6th century. Legend states that a healing spring came forth from the moment he was born. #history

The phenomenal Pentre Ifan. Over five thousand years old and constructed from local bluestone (also used for Stonehenge), there is a real magic to this ancient site. Folklore suggests that fairies are seen here, resembling little children in clothes like "soldiers with red caps."

In June 1919, navigator Arthur Brown, this black cat toy called Twinkletoes, and pilot John Alcock made the first nonstop Atlantic flight. Twinkletoes rode in Arthur’s Jacket. Both men had served in the Royal Flying Corps during WWI. You can see him in RAF Cosford Museum.

Ghosts. Been researching reports of ghostly monks & nuns in the landscape from the 17th century onward. Remarkable how in the 20th century people see them in homes & churches far from their trad place in Dissolution ruins. They become "go to" characters for hauntings anywhere.
