29 July 1565. Widowed Queen consort of France, Mary, Queen of Scots, married her half-cousin Henry Stuart (Lord Darnley), a Catholic, thereby outraging Scottish protestants. In 1567, Darnley was murdered at Kirk o' Field, Edinburgh. Many thought Mary I had ordered his death.
