Public schools are not failing students. Public school teachers are not failing students. The system is failing public schools, teachers and students. Stop saying public schools and teachers are failing students when the system is setting them up to fail.

When you give students busy work, you get busy work back. Be intentional about the assignments you give: if it doesn't inform your instruction and help learners understand themselves better as learners, you may want to consider cutting the assignment out.

The way we use standardized testing in schools is unsustainable. Do we need to validly and reliably assess students learning? Yes, we do. Do we need it to be high-stakes, dehumanizing, and demoralizing? No, we don't. #SustainableTeaching #MakeTeachingSustainable

The end of the quarter is just about 4 hours away, and I need your help to raise $523 to meet our goal! We are about three months away from a critical election here in Rhode Island, and with your help, I’ll be the Democrat that keeps #RI01 blue! secure.actblue.com/donate/john-go…

Queer teachers deserve to be seen in schools. It is exhausting (and unsustainable) to walk into schools every day when you know you can't talk about people like you in school. I know from experience that this is demoralizing, demeaning, and cruel.

Drag shows never killed anyone. Books never killed anyone. AR-15s are the cause of most mass shootings in America. Let’s stop the problem by banning AR-15s. Who’s with me?

Teachers are not saviors. Teachers are not martyrs. And what's more, teachers did not sign up to be either of these things. Teachers are human beings and they deserve respect.

I’m running for my students, my neighbors in Fox Point, and all the little Black and brown kids who are told they won’t amount to anything. 1 signature down, 499 to go. Let’s do this Rhode Island! 💪🏾

When students exhibit behaviors that suggest they don’t care about school, we have to resist the urge to blame the individual or call them lazy. We must instead ask: What about the system has caused them to disengage? And what can we do differently to engage them?
