It's a vicious cycle of unsustainable costs, driven by poverty, unstable housing, the crisis in mental health provision, disinvestment in local services and what the CMA has described as a 'dysfunctional' care market.

These are symptoms of structural issues in the care system to which there are no quick fixes. But long-term change must be coupled with an immediate investment in preventative early intervention, to help families who need it now. We hope to see that in the autumn Budget.
