Yesterday, Year 3 and 4 children competed in the Under 9 Quadkids athletic competition at Stowupland High School. It was a fantastic afternoon with parents, grandparents and siblings cheering on the children in each of the four athletic events.

There were some stand out performances; winning the relay and children volunteering to run for another school as they were 3 children short. The team spirit and determination made everyone at Freeman proud. Team Falcons came 1st winning gold & Team Eagles came 4th out of 7 teams.

Cherry Tree Class had a scavenger hunt in Forest School on Friday, collecting leaves and feathers. Snails were found in the log pile, it was fascinating watching them move. Children enjoyed bark rubbings and identifying sticky weed and several had fun decorating their dens.

This week the year 5 & 6 team won the silver award in the Under 11 Quadkids competition.  There were some superb performances in all 4 events and the children showed excellent sportsmanship throughout the afternoon.  The children should feel incredibly proud of their achievements

Cherry Tree Class sorted leaves into sizes in Forest School. They found some tiny and enormous ones to compare. Children studied the ermine moth caterpillars with the magnifying glasses on a bug hunt. Beautiful nature bracelets were made and a game of limbo was enjoyed.

In Forest School, Cherry Tree Class found an exciting gift left in the log circle by fairies, the children spent all afternoon looking for more magical clues. Children also learnt how to use tools safely. To finish the children enjoyed singing, 'in and out the dusty bluebells.'

Cherry Tree Class had a wonderful time at Forest School doing relaxation in the shade and playing with the branches the tree surgeon left us. Children built dens, a see saw and a ladder using the branches. They went on a bear hunt and found a note from the fairies.

Some children were brave learning how to climb a tree for the first time and we made elderflower cordial, picking elderflower heads from the school grounds, chopping lemons and adding sugar and water.

Year 6 have been cooking in DT - they have completed a 3-course meal using the following ingredients: peppers (for the starter), Salmon (for the main course) and pineapple (for the dessert). They researched recipes, wrote a shopping list of ingredients and then cooked their food.

Finally, we all tasted the food that was cooked and gave each dish a score. The food was delicious, and many of the children tried foods they'd never eaten before.

Year 5 had a wonderful day at the Ensemble Music Festival at Trinity Park. They performed as part of an orchestra of over 300 children. They were all incredible singing and playing alongside other schools. Thank you to everyone who came to watch and Suffolk County Music Service.

Yesterday Willow Class had a virtual author visit with Cressida Cowell. The children loved listening to how she started writing stories as a 7-year-old and how she struggled with spelling and handwriting.

Cressida Cowell explained how she created her dragons on holidays as a child on a remote island in Scotland, as the rocks looked like dragons. She was so inspiring and the class agreed that her stories behind writing her first book of 'How to Train Your Dragon,' was amazing.

Cherry Tree Class had a wonderful surprise in Forest School last week...a fairy door appeared! It brought a great deal of excitement and fairy craft was created by the children in the form of fairy sticks and letters to the fairies. Tree climbing was popular and the mud kitchen.

The children enjoyed tasting their elderflower cordial and it was roaring success. Some children wanted to set up a shop to sell it, as it was so delicious. Several stag beetles were found bug hunting, a pair of colourful tiny feathers and a bee paid us a visit in the log circle

Cherry Tree Class had a magical afternoon in Forest School as a fairy door appeared and gifts of rose petal ice blocks from the Forest Fairies. Children went tracking to find fairy footprints and built fairy houses using nature.

Cherry Class tried stinging nettle crisps for the first time in Forest School. The majority of the class LOVED them! They gave them 10/10 and some said that they tasted like salted popcorn.

The children found nature to match their colour swatch. Some children made the fairies swings and a lucky dip. Others used the large water buckets to cool down and make potions. A stunning variety of butterflies were spotted feeding on nectar from the bramble flowers.
