Lawmakers, Texans do not want SB13, and we will not forgive you if you continue to damage our schools and impoverish our children’s education. Pay attention to the message from this month’s elections, and let our children read.

We celebrate the towering legacy of Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o: a literary giant who gave voice to histories, struggles, and dreams. His words will forever echo in the chronicles of African storytelling.

HB3225 is dead! The Tx Senate is no bunch of bleeding hearts, & they’ve done damage to the right to read this session. But last night, when it needed a floor vote to pass, the Senate let this it die. You did this, Texans. Here’s what I wrote after the bill’s 1st hearing:

HB 3225 is dead. Texas teens maintain the right to read freely in their local libraries. Grassroots organizing, coalition building, and individual Texas students, authors, parents, librarians, & public library supporters using their voices WORKED.

This is the slippery slope of book banning. It starts by screaming PORN, and evolves into a whackadoodle school board removing entire chapters from state approved science textbooks. This is happening IN MY DISTRICT. Teachers are scrambling how to teach students and develop

BREAKING: Texas Republicans just passed a major book banning bill. They say it’s about protecting kids from “filth.” But when I questioned the bill author, he admitted that it could ban classics like Romeo and Juliet, Catcher in the Rye, and Lonesome Dove.

Book bans and censorship have never only been about erasing stories. They’ve always been about erasing people. Laws like SB 12 will be used to remove LGBTQ+ and BIPOC stories from classrooms and will shove LGBTQ+ students into closets. Cruelty is the point.
