The problem of rising CO2 from ‘autobesity’ is so serious that a recent study by UK Health Security Agency found that ‘downsizing’ policies to incentive smaller, lighter cars could yield a similar scale of emissions savings to 2050 as electrification 4/ x.com/crisortunity/s…

Yes, this is big but the UK's leadership has faltered. Once *the* country to build offshore wind, the UK attracted zero bidders in the last Govt auction round. Cutting carbon and making sure it benefits people won't happen on its own - we need💥sustained💥ambition and delivery.

Juliet Phillips It would have cost the average landlord ~£5k and added about the same amount as that onto their property value. But don’t trust me, trust *checks notes* the Governments OWN impact assessment…👇 assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/5fa1809f…

Spain's new government wants to stop short-haul flights where there's already an alternative train journey taking less than 2.5 hours. This is climate leadership. #TrainsNotPlanes🛤️ murciatoday.com/spain_tries_to…

Striking how - although in more sober language 😀- the Financial Times editorial is saying pretty much the same as Greenpeace UK about UK govt on climate Govt focus is on oil & gas rather than the economically rational approach to energy security and climate ft.com/content/b03314…

In the same week Carbon Brief analysis shows China’s carbon emissions are set to shrink by 2024 This delivers hope for tackling runaway climate change and that good green policy - cuts carbon - boosts manufacturing - grows economies All things UK voters no doubt want to see

Anyone would think, given their prominence, that oil companies were at the centre of the energy transition But the numbers show they aren't - they are peripheral, and should be treated as such until they change iea.org/reports/the-oi…

Gas, coal and oil combined can deliver <0.01 %, for a finite period, of what the sun will give forever. That's not even counting the wind or tides. A green future isn't restrictive. It's the definition of abundance and the only route to a stable energy supply & livable future.

Interesting comment from @ELPinchbeck at Green Alliance, that according to Energy UK members, negative headlines in the U.K. on climate policy and net zero transition is making them look to other countries to invest.

It's time the biggest and richest polluters most responsible for climate breakdown paid their fair share. Today in Parliament we launched our joint policy platform with Global Witness and Oxfam – supported by over 35 civil society orgs.

Proud to stand with Tax Justice UK and a host of other climate & trade union activists yesterday to call for a worker-led transition. We need a fair and fast energy transition that protects ALL workers - and higher taxes on big polluters to fund it.
