no one should have to work full-time with all that’s going on. I need one whole day to catch up on the news and two days to gaze bleakly through a window like a Victorian woman remembering her first glimpse of the sea.

In a few days I’ll be 48. When I turned 40 I finished a draft of my first novel. It didn’t find a home. But I wrote another, and before my 49th birthday it will be out in the world. I thought I was too old or too late or moving too slowly, but I wasn’t. Neither are you ❤️
