In 2002, Painter David Michie (1928–2015) wrote to The Fleming Collection about his painting Black Girls Walking in a Sunny Shower, Washington. He said: "This is an image I glimpsed which I found striking... I wished to retain the impression of something seen fleetingly."

A new exhibition explores the artistry of the creative process, rather than the finished work. 🎨 The result is a fascinating, if sometimes rushed, meditation on creativity. Read our writer Lena Kammerer's review: bit.ly/processprocess…

Scottish artist Henry Kondracki often painted remembered images from his past 🖼️ This painting, 'The Usherette, Beauty and the Beast’, shows a cinema girl – Beauty – standing in front of the Beast. The Beast is a monster from the cult film 'Clash of the Titans'.

Artist Thomas Sword Good specialised in portraits and genre scenes showing the life of the local fishing community. 🐟 His models were often family members; in this case, the “fisherman” is his elder brother Robert, who was actually a shopkeeper, not a seaman.

Happy May Bank Holiday Weekend! 📷 After a few weeks of sunshine, today’s moody skies have us thinking of Joan Eardley’s 'Summer Storm', where a dark, turbulent sky rolls over lush summer foliage. A reminder that there’s always beauty in nature, whatever the weather. 🌧️

Honorary Professor of Art History at The University of Edinburgh Belinda Thomson spoke to James Knox about 'Farm Buildings' by Roger Fry. "Fry is a bit of a whipping boy for you, James, because he omitted to include any Scottish artists in his two important post-impressionist shows!"
