Representation matters. Thanks to Sec Deb Haaland and many other Indigenous leaders, the Department of the Interior has reached a major milestone in to recognize the devastating trauma that federal Indian boarding school policies caused to generations of Indigenous people.

Today marks 62 yrs since legislation authorized the creation of Point Reyes National Seashore. Since the Alliance founding 3 yrs ago, we've worked to build bridges with the NPS, encouraging them to partner with Indigenous peoples to steward these vital ancestral homelands.

“So many people know almost nothing about California history, that there were Indians here. So it’s exciting and powerful to work to bring back this little cove on Tomales Bay that’s been abused and made invisible.” - Peggy Berryhill (Mvskoke) #Indigenous #Sisterhood #Leadership

What a beautiful story in celebration of the return of the West Berkeley Shell Mound into Indigenous hands, led by our incredible partners at Sogorea Te’ Land Trust. The #LandBack movement is growing stronger and stronger every day -- but we still have so much work to do.

Looking forward, the Alliance's vision remains grounded in the power of our 🌟 ancestors' lifeways. 🌟 “Learning the ancestral practice of canoe construction and cordage opened my heart even more to the necessity of community.”

“Our work is truly grounded in the experiences of the matriarchs of the Felix family—Theresa’s mother and grandmother—and all they endured while continuing to care for and protect the Cove. That commitment continues to show up through the women in this community.” - Kim Tercero

“Such good medicine on this trip, surrounded by good relatives, ancestors, sacred water and land” - Luna Hernandez. This #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth, we’re kicking off a campaign for next year’s trip – so that we can offer this opportunity to even more Indigenous youth.
