We're really excited for some great speakers coming to IUMaurerLaw

Today's distinguished guest speaker is Josh Blackman, who is talking to IUMaurerLaw students about the current state of free speech on college campuses. #FedSoc

.Josh Blackman says students at IUMaurerLaw are fortunate to be able to hear and express diverse views and to have professors like Steve Sanders who encourage that discussion. #FedSoc

"Student groups should have the autonomy to invite speakers to campus without needing administration approval." - Josh Blackman #FedSoc

Protesting is perfectly acceptable but "sustained interruption is problematic" - Josh Blackman #FecSoc

"The First Amendment protects a marketplace of ideas." - Steve Sanders #FedSoc

Universities should be as neutral as possible in promoting the marketplace of ideas. Exposure to various ideas is an important part of a college education. Stamping out certain views in the name of social justice is not in line with academic freedom. - Steve Sanders #FedSoc

There are ways to teach traumatic topics responsibly and irresponsibly, but law students need to be exposed to all kinds of cases and opinions. - Josh Blackman #FedSoc

Grateful to Josh Blackman for taking the time to come to IUMaurerLaw and present on the issue of free speech on college campuses. #FedSoc
