‘Sloping off t’pub a-bloody-gain’, looking like a view of Keighley’s North Beck before it was covered over during the Westgate clearance, typifies Peter Brook’s early interest in the post-industrial heritage of the towns of the West Riding. (Sold at Bolton Auction Rooms in 2022)

Oil beetles are endangered, and part of this is due to eating dog poop. Dogs are given worming tablets, and these don’t just kill worms, they kill the oil beetles who eat it. I saw 50 dead or dying beetles today. Leaving dog poo behind isn’t just gross, it’s ecocide:

September’s full moon, the Harvest Moon, should be visible this evening. Peter Brook began experimenting with the effects of lunar light on his trademark Pennine ruins in the early 2000’s, producing a series of paintings like ‘This Place is Badly in Need of a Lick of Paint’.

RIP the great artist Norman Ackroyd (1938-16.09.24): etcher-magician who conjured weather & light from metal & acid; his work constitutes one of the great visual records of this archipelago’s edges. We travelled together—& I made this programme with him: bbc.co.uk/programmes/m00…
