People who argue crypto can’t be a store of value because there were no pure store of value assets in the past may be ignoring that nothing in the past was comparable to crypto.

Not supporting artificial womb technology is evidence of either a lack of imagination or an inability to think well after having a negative emotional reaction.

Just now hearing that Meni stepped back from Bitcoin. Greg Maxwell has done the same. Seems like part of a brain drain as Bitcoin culture is taken over by mediocre hype men. How many top notch minds are left in Bitcoin? How long until Paul Sztorc and my leave?

A lot of smart people seem confused by this point. They think as long as you trust a 3rd party of your choice to enforce a contract you gain nothing over the US government having a monopoly over enforcing your contracts.

Richard Ngo @drjwrae You don’t need to ask a bizarre or deep question to bring deliberate engaged energy. Most rationalists don’t understand the purpose of smalltalk, which is to suss out the other person’s vibe and social awareness before you get mired in some deep entanglement.

Girard's mimetic theory is strictly worse than theories of human nature based on evolutionary psychology. It's trendy because Girard and Thiel are Christian and don't vibe with evolutionary explanations, and it's arcane enough that it's not worthwhile to criticize.

Nick From the meditators I know, their results don’t seem that great. Many stop meditating after years of regular practice. My takeaway: whatever it gives you is not actually that good. You may say I’m “suffering” but my life is pretty sweet. Unfulfilled desire is kinda cool.

Roko 🐉🤖🔰 My sociological critique of Urbit: Urbit tends to attract Bitcoin maxi types bc it’s culture is kind of based/trad, and it gives these people something to look forward to technologically which they yearn for bc not much can be built on Bitcoin. 1/N

eigenrobot Lost Depression evolved to encourage us to lay low after we take a bunch of status hits, so as to not burn even more social capital than we need to.

being really into meditation in 2024 is kinda like being a crewman on the titanic who spends his last hours jacking off instead of trying to keep as many people as possible from dying (including himself).

Using a bad metric just because it's "objective" is a terrible idea. Suppose you want to bet on a foot race. You can get an objective metric by measuring the length of everyone's legs. But that doesn't mean you should make it your main metric.
