Josh Fankhauser At plot scale: Sowing our Chickpea/Linseed mix in alternate rows CSIRO GRDC Greenethorpe Farm Systems exp 8th yr. Target 8ChP & 50 linseed plants/ln m at 5 & 1.5cm depth. Combination of 25cm high stubble & alt linseed rows to ⬇️ asco spread. Low linseed # to ⬆️ChP yield & $

Captain Chickpea & Amberley faba sown into good moisture at 4-5cm on 7th May in our 8th year CSIRO GRDC Greenethorpe FS exp. With only 3mm rain in April, good summer weed control + heavy stubble providing perfect conditions for sowing pulses. Thanks Tom-BARS, Matt-Kalyx😊

Retained wheat stubble = successful germination/emergence of wheat, canola fababean sown at depth (3-5 cm)into moisture despite 0mm rain in April. Had to push a little deeper than usual but warm soils/stubble = earlier establishment. Good start ⁦GRDC⁩ Farming Systems.

A stark contrast between Tullamore & Jerilderie #diversefarms sites this year. Much more YTD rain at Tullamore but canola sown into barley stubble is ahead of pulse stubbles at both sites - ground cover a downfall of the double break. 25mm Tullamore, 15mm Jerilderie👌 GRDC

FarmLink warmly welcomes our new Technical Officer, Laura Tod. Laura has been busy processing Deep N soil samples as part of the GRDC RiskWi$e project. The RiskWi$e nitrogen (N) decision theme takes a whole-of-system approach to help growers assess N decision strategies

Fortunate to have 7 yrs of GRDC Farming Systems data showing canola following pulses had higher gross margins than canola following cereals at all 4 sites, driven by higher yields and lower N requirements.

🌾🌾 GROWER STORY A tough end to 2024 showed just how valuable crop diversity can be. #Barley and #FabaBeans added resilience to Zach McRae’s family farm in southern NSW. These side-by-side crops are part of Diverse Farms, a component of the Southern NSW #FarmingSystems
