Al Horford was a 2-time NCAA champ, 3rd Overall pick, 2-time NBA All-Star, & 3rd Team All-NBA before the age of 25. Prime example of “Big men take time”, glad the Warriors got him at the peak 🔥

"Guaranteed Kuminga approximately $15M more than his qualifying offer would have for this season" Let's put that in some context...the full MLE is $15.1M next season. The guaranteed difference is just not crazy. What was the point of JK's camp waiting if they were gonna cave?

$7.9m QO...."Don't force us to take it" +$15m guaranteed... "Stop lowballing" +$25m more ($40m total)... "Nah never mind" Bruh, what was ARock doing for 3 months??

So after 3 months of waiting & his agent, Kuminga will get $850k more guaranteed than the original reported offer from July, plus the trade kicker though no certainty he will be moved. Compared to the QO, he gets $14.5M more guaranteed, but w/o the power of a no-trade clause.

$25M is lower-end, but *solid* starter money. JK reportedly wanted $30m AAV, so for 1 year it’s damn close. JK didn’t lock that in? Might be traded anyway, Kerr might leave, catastrophic injury risk greater over longer window, etc. Passing $14m for 1 year, fine, but $25M? Idk..

Add 39 year-old Horford & Kuminga to this list of 6’8 & taller players on the Warriors’ roster. The fact this iteration can even remotely dream about a championship in a sport that rewards height says so much about how good Steph, Jimmy, and Draymond can be.

When they got Wiggins in 2020, I thought it was a fine move, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t hoping they moved him again for better. But 2-Way bought in, produced, then stepped up even further during ‘22 so he was in. That’s JK’s blueprint—winning impact, not hype.

Relegation in the NBA could work! Expand to 32 teams—20 upper league, 12 lower league—sprinkle some cross division play/play-in paths & incentivize winning. We’d get more marquee matchups & foster more rags-to-riches fandom. Worst orgs suffer but profit sharing still a thing.

GSW will never get the time risked/wasted back from the Big Jim project, but I truly hope the Lacob regime learned from their hubris. So many ways things can go wrong w/ drafting so it's not a prudent way to build around a proven star especially if things don't come out firing.

I know comps are typically aspirational, but I’d say my list of less frequent comps for Big Jim held up pretty well:

Much of local GSW media avoided scrutinizing & some even defended the (publicly admitted) Two Timelines for years, but now if they critique any current result from that, they get treated as haters. 😂 Should’ve properly framed it as a risky moonshot. Success was never likely.
