Thanks to everyone who has nominated us to be in the final 5 of the Muddy Stiletto's Awards under 'Best Wine and Beer Specialists! Please help us defend our title as defending champions (we won the wine category last held in 2018)! bucksoxon.muddystilettos.co.uk/awards/vote/?c…

Are you watching Elon Musk? Do you understand the significance of these two particular papers standing with these huge crowds and overwhelming UK public opinion… …and against you & your bot army incitement of thugs to a “civil war”? My country is better than that. Learn it.

Yet another Brexit dividend - massively more bureaucracy for the wine trade which will push lots of small players out of business - theguardian.com/business/2024/…

Thanks for sharing Charlie! This is an issue we’ve been fighting for years. Please Labour scrap this absurd and harmful policy at the budget. This threatens our existence as small producers (what we are all about) will find the UK too much hassle to ship to. Calum Miller

Never mind the wine trade being in for a terrible time, Daniel. Think of the poor UK wine consumer: 60% of a £7 bottle of wine at 13.5% vol will be UK tax from 1 February.

Wine is going to cost more. Your pint is going to cost more (1p off, increases in business rates, the minimum wage and employer NICs all added on). Yet you know what? The HM Treasury actually KNOW that this will mean tax receipts from alcohol will go down. This is deranged.

Absolutely fuming about this post from our local ‘media’ what absolute bullshit lies. Do some journalism and speak to merchants, we’ll tell you the truth.

What the Budget means for wine businesses and drinkers, a thread. Rishi Sunak's weird alcohol tax reforms sought to take advantage of new found freedoms when the UK had left the EU. Heavily informed by a report funded by anti-alcohol think tank the Institute of Alcohol

Lib Dem’s can really fight this in Parliament. The planned duty regime is putting in more barriers to trading with the EU, and will actually lose money for the treasury. Why are labour putting Rishi’s plan in place? Layla Moran 🔶🕊️ Charlie Maynard MP 🔶 Calum Miller Daisy cooper

I couldn't work out why so few in the wine commentariat were prepared to stand up for wine this week. But then I realised they're not in the wine business at all. They're in the "themselves" business. I hope they'll change their mind. open.substack.com/pub/joefattori…
