Things got batty around this morning…literally. 🦇 Strong work by Capt. Drew Martin and Firefighter/AEMT Cadence Solsky, who faced the task of carefully scooping up a bat from an office building downtown after it decided to take its daytime snooze on top of the elevator door.

Retired Chief Eric Wilking may have left us in April after his 42-year career in the fire service, but he’s agreed to continue in his role as Emergency Management Director. We’re pleased to see that he’ll continue to serve the town of Exeter.

We would like to thank the folks over at Unitil for taking some time to provide electrical training to our firefighters in an effort to improve their knowledge of the company’s electric operation and increase awareness of hazards and other public safety issues.

If you’ve ever visited the firehouse you may have noticed this wheel contraption that was built with some good old fashioned Yankee ingenuity. This helps when we have to wash and reload hose after a fire. The wheel is showing its age, but it continues to serve us well.

Firefighter/Paramedic Matt Greene really needs to slow his roll. He’s got a festive reindeer headband attached to his locker, but we haven’t even enjoyed pumpkin spice season yet! 🍁🎃 ☕️

Sunny skies made for decent weather for members of B-shift to test the ladder truck and practice relay pumping operations and other techniques this week. They were rewarded with improved skills and conditions that were ripe for rainbows. 🌈 🚒 💦 #firerescue #firefighters

It’s Thursday, and that can only mean one thing: It’s ladder truck check day! 🚒 Thursday is the day when our crews perform a thorough inspection of Ladder 1 with a number of mechanical checks to ensure everything is in working order and we’re ready to roll when the call comes.

Five members of A-shift have received an EMS Life Saving Award for their efforts to help save a patient who was suffering from cardiac arrest during a call last month. This was the third such save for A-shift in just the last few months. Strong work A-shift!

Deputy Chief Fritz has been busy overseeing fire drills at our schools this week and today visited Main Street School. These drills are a critical part of a school safety program and ensure that students and staff are familiar with evacuation routes and practices.

On this somber anniversary, we must never forget those we lost, the heroes who responded, and the sacrifices that have been made in the years that have followed that fateful day. #September11
