An important thread. Similarly, I find children are riveted studying how numbers work in this way, e.g. "How many tens in 24? ones? How many ways can we pull it apart?" Developing a relationship with content that students want to continue and build on is a beautiful thing!

Last year I started including not only dropdown rubrics for grading (which I love!) but also a self-reflection for students to use the same process in reviewing their work against the rubric BEFORE submitting. Here's a sample from the first essay batch last year:
