Three certainties about UK-EU summit: 1/ It will be presented, with justification, by both sides as success 2/ There will be some detail on defence + security 3/ It will list a swathe of issues - incl. youth mobility and a food safety deal - for subsequent detailed negotiation.

In the EU we had no borders for goods and mutual recognition. Outside you can't have those even if you follow EU rules...and if you don't you can't have even partly eased access. That's because the EU is a web of compromises and give and take - you can't just take from outside!

Yes and that's why the UK fishing industry needs a deal to ease red tape selling into Europe - not bloviating right-wing politicians whipping up futile nationalism for their own ends.

It's funny that the Times only ever speaks of Britain 'letting young ppl from the EU live and work in the UK' when it writes on the Youth Mobility Scheme. Guys, this is also about young Brits regaining the right to live and work in the EU. thetimes.com/uk/politics/ar…

Btw that Tifo yesterday is the best example of what sets Palace apart from other clubs. The family club-feel and values are still there, despite becoming a Prem staple, being well-known on the international stage, and now winning an FA Cup. Palace is just different.

The unbelievable condescension we’re already seeing today towards working class people- suggesting they don’t travel to Europe or their kids might not want to go to university and study in Europe- is quite something to behold.

Apart from the NFFO (fishing lobby) I can't see a single business/group that does not welcome the UK-EU reset. BCC, CBI, IoD, UK Steel, UK Hospitality, British Meat Processors Association, Morrisons, BAE Systems, Salmon Scotland(!), Port of Dover.

The ā€œsurrenderā€ nonsense & the endless war metaphors were always in poor taste, but when they were first made, war had not returned to Europe&NATO wasn’t hanging by a thread. So forgive me if I have zero patience with anyone who pretends that the EU and the UK are enemies.

Farage (Dulwich College) and Tice (Uppingham) are public schoolboys. So, for that matter, are Lowe (Radley) and Habib (Rugby). Reform and its splinters are where you’re guaranteed to find such people.

Sadly, UK electorate's decision to join the EC was reversed in a subsequent referendum. But happily that very fact proves voters can change their minds and that pro-Europeans have the democratic right to argue for that to happen.

He attended Dulwich College - current day fees Ā£10,206 a term, and boarding fees Ā£21,422 a term. Yes, that’s per *term*.

Just a little reminder in the midst of the debate about budgets, spending reviews, tax, borrowing, and the state of public finances: Brexit costs £40 billion a year in lost tax revenues!

Says the man who negotiated the biggest act of self-harm in our history, then killed thousands during Covid by being a dithering fool, then threw away his massive majority because he couldn't follow his own rules. Sit down and shut up you useless tit.
