I’m going to write about this soon because I have more expansive thoughts on raising boys in this climate.

Love your sons enough to interrupt harmful narratives. Don’t raise boys who expect girls/women to absorb the fallout of their choices.

Parenting classes aren’t enough. Every neighbor, relative, and friend around children should have access to basic child development education. Imagine a village where folks are taught how to nurture children.

Not every loud kid is ‘disruptive.’ A lot of children speak in high volume because it supports their sensory processing. Auditory self-modulation is developmental.

You should not force kids to help. Encouraging kids to pitch in starts with autonomy. Ask open-ended or choice-based questions such as, “What would you like to help with today?” or “wipe tables or sweep the floor?” Giving them agency supports executive functioning and team work.

Which part needs clarity? You should teach kids to care for their individual and communal space. However, kids learn best when things are done autonomous, collaboratively, and with their capacity/executive functioning skills in mind.
