These have been delivered over 7 courses in either Stanley or Fox Bay on behalf of Forestry Commission The candidates have been excellent and positive throughout. Thank you Falkland Islanders for your hospitality and friendly welcome wherever we have been. We hope to see you all again

Our last full day in the Falkland Islands and time to reflect. We have trained 28 people and issued 67 Lantra accredited certificates; 27 Vegetation Fire Foundation, 20 Vegetation Fire Operators, 15 Wildfire Management Plan and 5 Prescribed Fire Manager. Rob Gazzard

In this photo of me standing in the peat, you can see the original surface level at about my shoulders. We have gained a valuable insight into theses very difficult fires and made a small contribution to extinguishing them. True knowledge exchange at the sharp end of wildfire.

This included an opportunity for them to plan a small prescribed fire. They employed a tractor rotavator to create a fuel break to anchor their burn. The conditions were not ideal, but they did get to practice using leaf blowers and an improvised fire pump to suppress the fire.

We have now delivered the last Lantra accredited course in Stanley for this trip. It was a Wildfire Management Plan course with 12 landowners. The course includes wildfire management planning, Wildfire Risk assessment and the creation of a Wildfire Response Plan@essexforester

Today we delivered a Wildfire Management Plan training course in Fox Bay, West Falkland. We had a walk around the village looking at wildfire hazards then spent the day writing these into a Wildfire Management Plan. The training is provided by Forestry Commission. Rob Gazzard
