For an overview of the role reactive oxygen species play in the regulation of mitochondrial activity and cytochrome c oxidase assembly, look no further than this #BiochemSocTrans mini-review from Erika Fdez-Vizarra and Povea-Cabello et al. doi.org/10.1042/BST202…

Two weeks left to register for the 8th EMBO/FEBS lecture course on “Mitochondria in life, death and disease” (16-20 September). Amazing line-up of speakers and many possibilities for early career scientists to discuss science and career paths. #EMBOmitochondria #mito

Currently reviewing a paper - It has 18 data dense figures (9 main, 9 supplemental). It's becoming very tricky to review papers as the sheer amount of time to assess the work appropriately is becoming unfeasible. It's also becoming an expectation to have such massive papers.

Computer scientists fear that despite the incredible progress in AI and other fields there’ll never be a computer strong enough to smoothly run a Word document with lots of track changes

Our lab is super happy for having secured funding for the next 3 years! To study mito-cross talk in mitochondrial disease PID2023(Agencia Estatal de Investigación) and cancer (Emerxentes-Xunta de Galicia). Thanks to the MitoFitness Lab lab to make it possible! Recruitibg new PhD students soon! So get in touch!

New review: an update on the pathological variants in nuclear genes causing mitochondrial complex III deficiency. Kristyna Cunatova & Erika Fdez-Vizarra conclude that tissue specificity of complex III deficiency manifestations deserves to be investigated in the future. doi.org/10.1002/jimd.1…

Hablar en público es, según los expertos, una de las principales asignaturas pendientes de la educación en España. De hecho, siete de cada 10 universitarios lamenta no haber recibido formación para ello en ninguna de las etapas educativas elpais.com/educacion/2024…

Happy to present our latest preprint. We identify adenylate kinase 2 as new interaction partner of apoptosis-inducing factor 1 (AIFM1) thereby linking AIFM1 to cellular metabolism and adaptation to fluctuating energy availability doi: doi.org/10.1101/2024.0…

I am editor in a journal. The last time a reviewer accepted my invitation to review was June 29. Currently, I have a ms with 22 invitations (I´ve had more), none accepted. Is it just me? Am I the only one reviewing ms for everyone else? (And yes, I came here to complain)
