It has been an intense half a year since starting the project! The first experiments have already been done and the first data collected.

It was hard to have two laser-heating experiments at core pressures at two beamlines at the same time but we managed. Thanks for the great help from Matter at Extremes and MinPhys@Münster.

The core of the🌍is mainly composed of iron and nickel, along with 5-10% of unknown lighter elements. Meet Ilya Kupenko Light elements in the core , European Research Council (ERC) grantee trying to identify these elements using high pressure and temperature at the ESRF. ▶️bit.ly/3lfzHJK EU Science & Innovation 🇪🇺

Presenting the first results of the project at the joint AIRAPT and EHPRG conference. Sound velocities and deformation mechanisms of the core-forming materials.

A demanding week has come to an end. At the first iteration of the Long-Term Proposal project at ID28, we managed to collect IXS data of iron compounds at high pressure, while laser heating! Geo_ESRF European Synchrotron #ERC

Tuesday was the last day of the long double beamtime at the European Synchrotron. Also, the first experiments of the Light elements in the core team at the fully refurbished after the #EBS upgrade ID14 beamline. With great help from colleagues from MinPhys@Münster and Bayerisches Geoinstitut.
