WOW. Six months after release, The Software Engineer’s Guidebook has sold more than 25,000 copies. This is far beyond what I hoped for. The audiobook is now in the works, as well as translation into 7 languages. Thank you to everyone who has picked up a copy of the book (or the e-book!) 🙌

Whenever I hear about some FAANG layoffs, I keep coming back to Gergely Orosz's discussion of "peacetime vs. wartime" companies. I'd posit that many big tech companies that have been in peacetime mode **for most of our entire careers** are now in wartime mode.

I'm only through the first section of The Software Engineer's Guidebook by Gergely Orosz and WOW I have already learned so much! We are doing a book club for it at work and I am SO excited to talk about this book 🙌

I always find specific examples make it easier to illustrate a point. This was why when talking about varied career paths in The Software Engineer’s Guidebook, I highlighted people who had this kind of variety (like Mark Tsimelzon has!)

A reason engineers are often drawn to working on platform teams. Especially if on product teams engineers feel like they don't have much input in influencing the team direction / tactics. From The Software Engineer's Guidebook: Chapter 5: (Thriving in Different Environments)

I learned how The Software Engineer’s Guidebook (The Software Engineer’s Guidebook) ended up being translated to Mongolian: This engineer (Suiribaatar) bought the English version, liked it, and suggested to his company (Nasha Tech) to translate it. The company did it. You can just do things.
