DC Emergency Rental Assistance (ERAP) Update ⚠️ On Tuesday, April 1, the DC Council will hear the latest version of a critical rental assistance reform bill. It includes important measures to prevent evictions and hold unresponsive landlords accountable.

Legal Aid DC (@legalaiddc) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Councilmember Matt Frumin Councilmember Wendell Felder Councilmember Zachary Parker CM Christina Henderson Councilmember_RobertWhite We know that landlords who don’t want to be held even minimally accountable are lobbying to have these advances stripped from the bill. We’re urging the @councilofDC to protect the progress that’s been made and pass a bill that enshrines these protections for tenants.

Councilmember Matt Frumin Councilmember Wendell Felder Councilmember Zachary Parker CM Christina Henderson Councilmember_RobertWhite Council of DC We strongly support the changes to the bill made by the Human Services Committee. Tenants still deserve more. We also ask the Council of DC to amend the bill to reflect the crises that tenants often face in by easing requirements for documents and what counts as an emergency.

As the Council of DC gets ready to vote on emergency rental assistance (ERAP) reform, let’s consider WHY so many tenants are behind on rent. According to Council Office of Racial Equity, over half of Black and Latine renter households in DC are cost-burdened (spend 30%+ of income on rent). National Low Income Housing Coalition

D.C. budget update: Per Phil Mendelson, it looks like the D.C. Council will get the proposed 2026 budget on May 15, almost a month and a half later than expected. Mayor Muriel Bowser said the congressional mess with the current budget is partly to blame, but Mendelson doesn't buy that.

THE RENT IS TOO DAMN HIGH. Blaming tenants and restaurant workers is missing the point. The high cost of rent is unsustainable for residents and businesses alike. And it keeps going up.
