UCLA football is 3 days away from the 1st game of the season, DeShaun Foster's first as head coach. Foster compared the feeling ahead of the game to his first time playing varsity football: "you're excited, you're having a little bit of butterflies."

One surprise from UCLA's first depth chart was WR Rico Flores Jr. earning a starting spot out of the gate. Foster on the Notre Dame transfer: "Rico came in and had a really good spring, followed that up with a great camp." Mentioned Logan Loya will rotate in w/ the starters.

Mick Cronin was asked if this is his most talented, deepest team: “I hope so.”

Cronin on recruiting through the transfer portal: "I'll just say what we don't look for, guys who just want to get paid."

Cronin had huge praise for USC transfer Kobe Johnson's defense. "Kobe Johnson's in a whole different class. He's with Jaylen Clark as the best two defenders I've ever been around."

Cronin on having a more experienced team this year compared to last: "I've slept better."

Cronin on the likelihood that several talented players won't get a ton of minutes this season. "I didn't put a gun to anybody's head ... it's UCLA. We're getting as many good players as we can because the standard here is to hang the 12th banner."
