I just finished trauma as a PGY-2 which marks two things for my career: 1. No more 24 hour shifts for the rest of my career thank god 2. Only emergency medicine for the rest of y life. That first shift back in the ED knowing these two things just hit differently 😮‍💨👌

Intubated, placed a chest tube, and helped with a thoracotomy and cross clamping the aorta on my overnight shift. I HELPED MASSAGE A FREAKIN HEART IN MY HANDS YO HOW IS THIS MY JOB

Two ED thoracotomies in two night shifts. Insane.

6/6 nights in the ED done. Fulfilling with two thoracotomies, multiple intubations, chest tubes, central lines, lumbar punctures. But I also almost missed a pediatric meningitis, and failed an LP. I know I’m still in training but it makes me feel so guilty.

I guess I’m a cat dad now. She’s got three legs and her name is Peggy Katamine and I never thought I’d ever own a cat before a dog but I love her.

My cat is about a year old or so and acts like a little diva most of the time but every night from 11pm to about 1115pm she all of a sudden becomes a cuddler. I live for those 15 mins a day.
