Strange, our world. The lunatic, fatwa-driven stabbing of Salman Rushdie is tied to The Satanic Versus but his most celebrated novel is Midnight's Children. The attack comes during the 75th anniversary of the Indian partition that created Pakistan. Strange timing, this attack.

Pleased to announce that I am part of Porcupine's Quill Fall Literary Fiesta. Come to Toronto’s Kensington Market where I’ll be having some fun with 5 other PQ authors and reading from my novel Fair. #literary #WritingCommunity #writerslife

Put another way: since the 70s Canada has not become a fully bilingual country regarding French & English but is most certainly a "bilingual" country regarding metric and imperial.

So it happened. Making my next dental appt, after having my teeth cleaned today, and the young dental assistant asked if June 6 was ok. Sure, then I added, D Day. That’s your birthday — she wanted to confirm. No, I said June 6 is D Day. And then it came: what’s D Day?

Greg Malone quoted by Brad Wheeler in this weekend's G&M re: Ron Hynes tribute album “I wanted to become the greatest actor in North America. But when I got to Toronto I realized right away I wasn’t a Canadian. I arrived in Toronto as one, but I left there as a Newfoundlander.”

Correct me if I’m wrong about hiring Berube for #Leafs but since the 68 expansion era no coach not named Scotty Bowman has won a Cup with more than one NHL team. Hiring a proven coach Cup winner doesn’t work. Experience is essential but having already won the Cup is a kiss off.

In all the Kris Kristofferson obits I've read the last couple of days the same films he starred in are recounted but the lists never include The Sailor Who Fell From Grace With the Sea, released in 1976. I remember liking the film. Not sure if it holds up after 50 years.

Look for this #RobertRedford film you might not have seen, from the mid60s. Critics didn’t like it but I watch it whenever it comes on #TCM I think Hellman’s adapted script is written in the (then) shade of the JFK assassination. Ending is clearly a reenactment of Oswald’s murder
