Finishing a phase one survey for a site over 100ha in size. 3 main badger setts. 17,000 steps in muddy fields. Safe to say my legs have had it 😭

Is it hilarious or bone-deep agonising that Defra has used a picture of a non-native species mixed with arable species when talking about grasslands? It's almost as if they have literally no idea what they are talking about.

After monitoring the same pond for 3 years and getting no positive results, this was a good surprise last night. Single female great crested newt found in the net! #ecology

Early season grass identification. (l-r) False oat-grass, rough meadow grass(πŸ€”), sweet vernal grass and meadow foxtail. Torn between smooth meadow grass here, as lower leaves not particularly rough and stem leaf is short, but ligule is too long. #wildflowerID

First and worst bat survey of the season done βœ… Freezing cold, no bats, had to arrive an hour early to be inducted and had so many motorway diversions on the way home. 8+ hour round trip for nothing interesting 😭

Spot the grass snake 🐍 first one I’ve seen in ages and in the last place I’d expect to come across one (bang in the middle of a woodland)!
