What is the true meaning of life? What can free us from being trapped in meaninglessness, boredom and mediocrity? The fullness of our existence does not depend on what we store up or what we possess. Rather, fullness has to do with what we joyfully welcome and share.

I saw this film during its original run. The visuals are stunning and basically unparalleled in Western animation. Seems under-reported, though, that it's a very in-your-face critique of US foreign policy; I suppose this is what it's like to be on the receiving end of soft power

Coworker found me photosynthesizing on a park bench today. He’d been looking at a house in the neighborhood; I was gawking at charts of tank production in WW2; we made perfunctory conversation about Romanian oil and Palo Alto rents and he carried on with his stroll

The best piece of often overlooked advice that I got at rentech (by Jim himself) in the earlier days was : “Always remember, first sort, then regress”. We lived by this rule. If you have data (X,Y) sort X and Y independently, this gives a better fit.
