Victory for LGBTQ+ people in St Lucia! The buggery and gross indecency laws have been declared unconstitutional by the Eastern Caribbean Supreme. Sections 132 and 133 of the Criminal Code, criminalizing  buggery and gross indecency, have been struck down.

‼️Human rights in the Eastern Caribbean continue to advance as the colonial legacies of these unconstitutional provisions continue to fall. However, more still needs to be done across the region to ensure that progress is real, practical, and effective for LGBTQ+ individuals.

Update from the Caribbean: The High Court of Saint Lucia has today struck down discriminatory, colonial-era laws that criminalised #LGBT people. This decision leaves only five countries in the Western Hemisphere where such laws remain in place. More information to follow.
