See what weāre wearing? After Dwyer Murphy ās fab event at @newtonville_books where I got to ask abt his brilliant THE STOLEN COAST: plot twist! It began to rain. Torrential, w/lightning & thunder. How to leave? Genius owner Mary Cotton doled out⦠Trash bags!

This one was a special thrill. Iāve been listening to Fresh Air the better part of my life. Thanks to Maureen Corrigan for a very generous review.

Prolific #Florida author John D. MacDonald, creator of battered knight-errant Travis McGee, was born #OTD in 1916. He slipped a lot of enviro messages into his fiction. I wrote about that for CrimeReads. crimereads.com/john-d-macdonaā¦

For me, Clark and Division is one of the best crime novels in recent memory. What a great book club pick. And an insightful Naomi Hirahara profile from Sarah willow to round out the package. California has great taste.

Miami! I'll be in my favorite spot next week, 8/3 @ 7pm: Books & Books, talking The Stolen Coast and my two favorite scenes in the book, which both involve Miami detours and pollo a la brasa. Who doesn't look a bookshop with a courtyard mojito? booksandbooks.com/event/in-persoā¦

Smart play here is to scoop up ONE FALSE MOVE and LEAVE HER TO HEAVEN, then you get, for the price of one great movie, William Boyle on neo-noir and Megan Abbott on Gene Tierneyās technicolor eyes.
