Sudden death of fast growing ewes or lambs on Lucerne is usually clostridia. Make sure your vaccination programme is correct. Animals that die from clostridia 'blow up' quickly, so it may appear to be bloat. Bloat is unlikely with good fibre supply (straw/hay)

Today we got to sample the beers and spirits created by the talented brewers and distillers that partnered with Matthew Newell trialling end uses for Mtn Rye grain. For a grass that has had no selection for grain quality, all agreed there is a heap of potential in this species.

Few of the mixes in TIA #pasture365 focal site at Campbell Town, Tas. Little supplementary irrigation to get things started. Usual suspects doing well phalaris, sub clover, lucerne. Chicory, balansa good too. 12 treatments from simple to complex mixes.

If you've had rain recently, or have irrigation, maintain salt and fibre access for stock on lush lucerne regrowth. Fresh growth can be high risk any time. Photo: Dryland Pastures group

We recently had a visit from Deakin University who we're working with on a major project to help livestock producers address the impacts of climate change and sustained periods of dry conditions on the pasture feedbase. They visited our two focal sites in the north. #Pasture365

In the next few months I will be screening pastures species (hopefully around 30-40 species) with (many) herbicides modes of action (from the serradellas to clovers, vetch to triticale, cereal rye, oats, cocksfoot, kikuiu etc.). 👇🧵
