Strewth. This morning is made of lapis lazuli! The heavens are laid bare! I can almost touch the stars... If you need a little bit of heavenly peace here's the view from the sea-log-seat, Opinan, Wester Ross, NW Highlands of Scotland. #FridayFeeling

Venturing out to see the sunset after illness... drinking in air like sweet cool wine, serenaded by the evening chorus of a Highland spring. Oh! the joy. I hope you too can find peace, nourishment and strength in nature. View across the croft to Skye.

A Maundy scene in an Anglo-Saxon manuscript: monks washing feet and a king giving to the poor. Maundy Thursday takes its medieval name from these acts of charity, following Christ's commandment at the Last Supper. His 'mandatum' became 'mandé' in French, 'maundy' in English.

Maundy Thursday is unusual in the English calendar for having a name derived from French. That name is first recorded in the 15th century; an alternative, older medieval name was 'Sheer Thursday', from 'skere' meaning 'pure, cleansed'. quod.lib.umich.edu/m/middle-engli…

Legislative interpretation is based on the wording of the legislation as enacted. It is not based on background thinking. And while statements in parliament can be used (in very limited circumstances) their use is not common.

Absolutely in awe of these wall paintings in the Chapter House at Westminster Abbey. Such glorious examples of medieval Christian art and spiritual devotion.
