I keep hearing that #txlege is “investing $5B” in pub ed. But in ‘22-23, the state collected $8.2B MORE from recapture districts than they needed and kept it for their general fund. Seems like there is still OUR money available to increase the basic allotment! Greg Abbott

📢 Contact Greg Abbott & request a Special Session to increase the Basic Allotment. On Mon., the 88th Texas Legislative Session ended with the Senate & House unable to agree on HB 100, the only legislation to increase public ed funding. 📲 bit.ly/DrBlaineUpdate… #FullyFundSBISD

A true leader of Texas would say “when legislation is passed to properly fund our public schools to give all 5.4million students quality education at the hands of our professional teachers.” But no, we have Greg Abbott & Dan Patrick squabbling & wasting time.

Disappointing that Greg Abbott is vetoing good, unrelated legislation + holding public school funding/teacher raises hostage in order to force unwanted voucher/inflated bureaucracy scheme. Either vouchers stand alone on their own merit or not. Dade Phelan Brad Buckley #txed

Even small rural districts are feeling the economic pinch and stagnant school funding formula. For those keeping track, we now have rural, suburban and urban districts large, medium and small saying the same thing.

Ahhh “inflation is a thing.” Morath acknowledged something similar earlier this year when I told him inflation was having a significant impact on our budget. Just considering the increased costs for benefits, property insurance, utilities, and fuel equates to a 21% increase in

Morath claims $7M in “new” funding for Spring Branch ISD. The “new” money is really just SBISD keeping a tiny bit more of the taxes we raise locally before we send our recapture payment to Austin which I’ll remind everyone was $80M last year. Our money and other district’s recapture

I would point the commissioner to our academic results—our kids are performing above 2019 levels. ESSER funds were to help mitigate learning loss, and the results show that. We consistently receive top financial accountability ratings. No mismanagement here.

Congratulations! What an amazing accomplishment! The start of an awesome journey. Alejandra represents what our kids are so very of doing!

Thank you, Greg Abbott and Mano DeAyala, for your time discussing SBISD and public education financing. I explained to our Gov how painful $35M in cuts were to the Spring Branch ISD community and how much this community cares about our schools.
