Couldn’t agree more... we need fully integrated services for our children & young people which combine mental health with physical health seamlessly ... in one beautiful package....it can be done, I am sure of it.

All I can say is thank goodness our wards are emptier than usual (due to impact of covid lockdowns - not seen a single bronch) giving us the wriggle room to be responsive and admit &treat young people struggling with this awful illness on our acute paeds wards when needed.

I'm really pleased that the surge in Eating Disorders is being highlighted in both medical and mainstream press. In Devon we have seen a 40% increase in CAMHS referrals for eating problems in the last year.

You are not a burden. You are not alone. You deserve help. You can get better. You matter. Just in case you needed the reminder 💛

Systems designed to meet needs of resource constrained systems rather than around needs of young people, who don’t always behave in the way manuals list, especially in a global pandemic! Working hard to try and change this locally and plug gaps.

Luci Etheridge It is so sad and frustrating. But what are we to expect? Under 18s receive less than 10% of the mental health budget, less than 1% of the overall NHS budget. We can't expect things to change until we pay for it

All paediatric departments in both specialist childrens hospitals and DGHs should have straightforward access to, and dedicated input from a multiprofessional mental health team. #paediatricliaison

Anyone else feeling that the 18-25yr olds are getting it worst yet again. Lost exams/education, no jobs, ruined Uni years. Now can’t join a family holiday with U18 siblings and vaccinated parents. They sacrificed for us over 50’s, we owe them. #notfair

My BH wkend is overshadowed by knowing that numerous YP with MH difficulties are spending the long wkend on paediatric wards without the right specialist support. Totally heartbreaking to see. Adrian James Children's Commissioner for England please help us sort this out 😥

Great article from South West clinicians on what good Paediatric mental health leadership looks like. The role…create a culture of parity, empower the team, advocate for CYP MH fearlessly at a strategic level and unite with MH colleagues. @karenstreetkhan James Dearden
