When employers disregard due process and trample on fairness, NAHT will not walk away. Our colleagues in @NAHTCymru are right to fight this appalling injustice.

In NI, school inspection is currently much more supportive and focused on improvement. In England, colleagues face a regime that ignores welfare, safety and professional voice. We stand in solidarity with them.

The refusal of Ofsted to address serious wellbeing concerns demonstrates why unions must retain the right to take industrial action against harmful systems. This is why we continue to resist changes to legislation in NI, even though ETI is currently much more supportive.

Our school leaders and teaching workforce want nothing more than to deliver for every child. They must, however, be resourced appropriately and approached with the respect and dignity that their dedication and professionalism deserve. naht.org.uk/News/Latest-co…

We’re pleased that the deadline has been extended, recognising the challenge that many school have experienced at the beginning of the term.

I’m glad we have a more reasonable inspection system in NI. But if a future regime imposed an Ofsted-style model and the right to take industrial action had been removed, the profession could be left vulnerable to abuses we can scarcely imagine. England shows it could happen.

1/4 It is time for politicians to demonstrate that education is genuinely a priority rather than simply a talking point. The Minister of Education cannot deliver the improvements our schools desperately need without the Stormont Executive properly resourcing him to do so.

We welcome today's commitment of £37 million towards teachers' pay. This announcement represents a step in the right direction ahead of negotiations in the coming months. naht.org.uk/News/Latest-co…

Our children deserve political leaders who will prioritise their education and their futures over political point-scoring and empty rhetoric. People need to ask politicians repeatedly: Exactly how will you ensure that funding is fully restored directly to our schools immediately?

We welcome the EA’s early engagement on this. We believe that when school leaders are involved from the earliest stages of planning, outcomes for children are stronger and more sustainable.

Education in NI is being dismantled by years of underfunding. Cuts to EOTAS, school meals, transport and music will hurt vulnerable children most. Politicians were warned about the implications of their choices. They must now choose to fund education, not manage its decline.

Every single one of these damaging measures announced today is the direct consequence of political choices made at Westminster and in Stormont about how much to allocate to education in Northern Ireland. naht.org.uk/News/Latest-co…

This is the final nail in the coffin of school development. How do we develop when we can’t purchase resources, or provide learning time for, or even replace a sick teacher? There is now a new yard marker for Education and Training Inspectorate Maintenance is now success; development is a pipe dream.
