Is there research into how Theology and choices made in Bible Translation interrelate and affect each other? I have a suspicion of such influence on a lexeme I'm studying & am hoping there's related research out there. Otherwise I have a lot of digging to do, & no time to do it.

I've not yet seen the NA29 advertized, but the UBS6 is due out in October (2025). Hugh Houghton's new Textual Commentary the end of July. And, the ECM Matthew in December. Our friends at the Deutsche Bibelgesellschaft have been very busy!

Every time a part of scripture is translated and people in that language begin to read and use that translation, Christians meet God in a new language, through a new cultural mindset, in a new way.

Beautiful the way Psalm 113:7-8 connects to Hannah's prayer in 1 Samuel 2:7-8 before culminating in: “He gives the childless woman a household, making her the joyful mother of children. Hallelujah!” (Psa 113:9 CSB). A surprise akin to a barren woman becoming pregnant (1Sa 2:5).

Arrived today and have skimmed the introduction Houghton follows reasoned eclecticism, is favorable towards the CBGM, is against text-types, covers 1232 variant units, still has letter ratings And it's not a reporting of the UBS6 committee decisions, but Houghton's own work

I've written some initial impressions of Hugh Houghton's new Textual Commentary (see link below). It'll be a standard reference work for the next generation and a great starting place for further textual research.

Some very good news for users of the digital edition of the Editio Critica Maior on Revelation: the introduction and supplementary material (thousands of pages!) should all be available as free PDFs online this year. 🔗 …ngelicaltextualcriticism.blogspot.com/2025/07/ecm-re…

Well now, here's a particularly troubling line of inquiry: “The entirety of the episode’s three hours was devoted to arguing that...Hebrew is a wicked language and that any biblical translation that uses Hebrew as its base is wicked as well.” forward.com/culture/761623…
