Saddened to learn of the passing of Tom Wharton, one of the finest journalists in state history. Tom was a great mentor of mine when I took over the prep sports beat at the Trib in 1991.

Also, Tom and Gayen mentored us, and gave us a calm assurance that everything would be OK when we learned we were having twins. They also had twins, Raul and Jacob. Prayers out to them and Emma.
