Ensuring availability of & access to long-acting opioid agonists to treat opioid use disorders is a key component of the UNODC Prevention Treatment Rehabilitation Section programme on access to controlled substances for medical and scientific purposes, preventing diversion and non-medical use.

Limited access to controlled medicines, essential to alleviate pain and symptoms in cancer, mental health, neurological and substance use disorders, is an underlying cause of severe health related suffering, especially in LMIC. UNODC Prevention Treatment Rehabilitation Section works to end the access gap.
