Facts- Lately I’ve been feeling like the dualistic framing of anything is the root problem in wellness spaces: Mind/body, body/environment, etc. “Fictitious dichotomies” in turn create fictitious solutions, via dualistic framing of reality (very Western).

When we have psychologists and psychiatrists using the terms "misdiagnosis" "correct diagnosis," "X amount of people have x disorder," etc., it is clear that MH diagnoses are reified and believed objective in the discourse. This is a central problem.

How Big Pharma monetised depression. 40 years of the disease model...has left us sicker & unhappier than ever before. There's little reason to believe that more of the same will fix our problems, & plenty...to think it will continue to make them worse. unherd.com/2022/10/the-tr…

Some genuinely believe it's possible to ‘reclaim’ the phrase ‘mental illness’, purging it of all its bio-psychiatric, pathologising & stigmatising associations. I'm not convinced at all. If you want to change public perceptions remove the associations, demedicalise the language.

A generational dumbing-down of the purpose, meaning & multiple drivers of suffering is one of the more insidious effects of medicalisation. We've reduced this vast domain of complex humanity to the simplistic indignity of 'dysfunction' & 'disorder'. Easy, profitable & obtuse.

Medical trainees underestimate the degree to which training is a process of indoctrination into submission to arbitrary authority, accommodation of inequality, and resignation to bureaucratic indifference. And these effects don’t magically disappear when training officially ends.
