To be clear, it is of course healthy to have academic debate, and I find it interesting. It is just telling that folks are willing to immediately toss out the gold standard for free living energy expenditure because the results don’t fit their beliefs.

However, neither myself nor my numerous patients who have normalized a1c and gotten off huge amounts of insulin really care about whether a “metabolic advantage” exists. I care about giving my patients the tools and support to succeed, with advice they can adhere to.
