For infill development in dense transit proximate sites is it not time to just completely eliminate CEQA? What environmental impacts are we afraid of exactly? Spur housing + more economic development + jobs + vibrancy - GHG?? Tell me 1 reason why not?
Finished a meeting with a Santa Monica City CM re housing. When I started in land use SM was the worst. Virtually no housers would go there. Now it’s how can we help your clients build housing? It’s the most pro housing jurisdiction in the state - a model for every other city!
🚨 JUST IN: Gavin Newsom is claiming Donald Trump will run for a third term as president in 2028
“Mark my word! These guys are NOT screwing around!"
“I received in the mail - a ‘Trump 2028’ hat!”
OMG 😭
Sorry off topic. Can’t help myself. Wake up Dems we have our ‘28 nominee. Our Gov is going to fight every inch of the way for our democracy and values. No more milk toast opposition. It’s time we fight back. thehill.com/homenews/state…
Council file 25-0002-S19 (Lee and Park's resolution to oppose SB79) is on the LA city council agenda for Wednesday the 20th. Anyone who can make it to city hall next Wednesday to speak in opposition, please do!
Katie Porter pls seize the moment and firmly establish yourself as the YIMBY/abundance candidate for Governor.
- Back SB79
- Embrace 2.0 CEQA reform beyond AB130
- Reform RHNA to impose ongoing penalties for non complaint cities (not once a HE cycle)
I’ll endorse right now!
ADU for-sale opportunities should be mandatory and required in every jurisdiction in the state. Entry level homeownership ADUs can’t just be unicorns found only in CA’s most progressive jurisdictions. latimes.com/california/sto…
Willie Brown suggested abolishing cities and counties in 1987 🤔. Maybe it’s time to revisit regional planning authorities and disempowering local governments? Bold and hard to politically achieve for sure. But it could cripple nimbyism…. businessinsider.com/lower-home-pri…
One of the reasons Sacramento has taken on more land use decisions that have historically been the purview of local jurisdictions is because LA and other major cities have not been building housing at the rate we need to be.
My chief take away from this week’s massively disappointing display of City of LA SB79 political cowardice:
LA electeds are significantly underestimating the potency of YIMBY and abundance voters - and grossly overestimating the relevance of a dwindling yet vocal NIMBY minority
