Having a bit of a tidy up at home and have three hardback copies of my book, “Concerning Beards”. £15 each inc postage, and I’ll even sign it for you! First come first served - DM me if you are interested.

Great to see that this fab Wellcome short film about personal grooming in the 19thc has been nominated for a webby award. Proud to have had a v small part in this as a script advisor. Please do take a look, and perhaps consider a vote: vote.webbyawards.com/PublicVoting#/…

Can anyone recommend any good ‘state of the field’/survey articles on the history of travel? Ideally I’m looking for something that picks up key themes for students to discuss.

It seems weird, & I’m probably missing something obvious. but I can’t find any survey articles on the historiography/main themes in recent travel history at a meta level. There are some on travel writing , and tourism, but not more generally. Dr Eva Johanna Holmberg Gábor Gelléri now also on BlSk?

Back doing some work on my favourite sources - Georgian newspaper ads. I love the little stories you come across by accident...like Titus Penny, Shoemaker of Leeds, who appeared in the Leeds Intelligencer in 1787 under the headline 'A Run Away Husband'

Does anyone know of any academic articles/books dealing with how people planned journeys/transport/accommodation before travel agencies?

5 new counties just added to the list (now totalling 11) of biographies of early modern medical practitioners on our University of Exeter @ExeterClio @WellcomeTrust project website - practitioners.exeter.ac.uk. A fantastic resource for #medhist

Any suggestions for articles/books relating to the physical/sensual experience of coach travel or more generally of motion in the long 18thc?

Alun Withey (@dralun) 's Twitter Profile Photo

This is a longshot, but does anybody have access to an article called “packing for touristic performances“ in the annals of tourism research journal, 38:3 July 2011? For some reason, I can’t seem to get uni access .

Yet another request for suggestions on travel literature: Can anyone recommend articles/books exploring the sensory experience of 'new' places in the 18th/19thc - specifically looking for work on how it felt to be somewhere new/different, & effects on the senses
