I've never looked forward to a new book appearing in print so much as I am looking forward to the translation of Patrizi's 'De institutione reipublicae'. I just hope it is the full text, and not merely an abridgement. eburke Harvard University Press When is the publication date?

We had some great achievements after WW2: the NHS, the slaying of Beveridge's 'Five Giants', grammar schools and the opening of higher education, great scientific and technological achievements, world-leading music and culture. Achievements after 1979, though, are harder to find.

Henry Neville, in his 1681 tract, 'Plato Redivivus', compared constitutional decay to the French disease: easily cured, when hard to detect; but hard to cure, often fatal, when it is obvious. A generation ago, the UK's constitutional decay was easily cured. Now it is obvious.
