Very happy to find this female Plains-wanderer after a few quiet nights of surveys. She is carrying a tiny VHF backpack to help us understand the impact of predation on the species

First time out collecting data for my new Bush Heritage job and I was lucky enough to see some great #birds. I think I am going to like my new field sites a lot. #WildOz

Pleasure to be back out on the plains and seeing a few of these wonderful birds again. Autumn population monitoring is underway and we are off to a good start

With a snout vent length of a staggering 36 mm this endangered juvenile Monaro Grassland Earless Dragon - (Tympanocryptis osbornei) oversees his dominion of the Monaro Plains with the self assured authority of a beast at least 4 times his size.

After six years monitoring grassland fauna on Victoria’s Northern Plains and hundreds of hours and kilometres of search effort, my first rare and threatened (Vic) Red-chested Button-quail. These birds typically turn up in Victoria following very wet years and then disappear again

Great day yesterday launching my Plains-wanderer conservation booklet that summaries findings from my PhD with TrustforNature 🏞️🦎🐢 North Central CMA 🌳🐠🐦. Getting my research directly into the hands of farmers and land managers who can make positive onground impact! More copies available

Huge news! This must be a trigger to fix the tragedy which is the Western Grassland Reserves, and purchase remaining land and adequately fund land management. These grasslands could be home to amazing animals like VGE dragons, dunnarts and Plains-wanderers if managed well

Devastated. This was a native grassland (federally listed) in North Vic, home to threatened species, a few weeks ago but now a cultivated paddock. It was reported at time of spraying but no action DEECA Victoria Campaspe Shire . Death of our unique grasslands by a thousand cuts...

Great piece from @perkinsmiki on threats to mountain forests from climate change driven fires. “All these dead trees we see around us are no longer carbon sinks, they’re sources of carbon emissions. That’s happening over a large part of the VIC Alps” smh.com.au/environment/cl…

If Govt is serious about halting extinctions then developments on Ramsar listed wetlands can't go ahead. The Toondah Harbour application is on Tanya Plibersek desk waiting for a decision. We need decisions that protect Nature, incl. endangered species like Eastern curlews.

Our community group has watched multiple EPBC-listed native grasslands go under the plough in recent years with no permits or prosecutions. The absence of enforcement is a clear example of the EPBC Act failing. Time for an overhaul Tanya Plibersek . acf.org.au/how-environmen…
