I say to God, my rock: “Why have you forgotten me?” -Psalm 42:9 You can feel forgotten by God and yet at the same time affirm the truth that He is your rock. Those are not contradictory thoughts—they reveal the complexity of a discouraged, lamenting soul.

We can’t cover our sin, Jesus alone is our covering. We can’t hide our sin, Jesus alone is our hiding place. “Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered…You are a hiding place for me; you preserve me” Ps. 32:1, 7

We sing a new song because we experience new rescues and new mercies each day. “He lifted me out of the pit… he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God.” Ps. 40:2-3

In some ways, the more mature we are, the more child-like we become.

It’s ok to ease into your Monday resting on your heavenly Father’s chest. He’s with you and before you and will give you what you need.

You don’t have to keep managing your life as if everything is dependent upon you. That’s God’s job. And he’s really good at it. You’re not the shepherd. He is. And he’s smarter, stronger and more secure than you are. So be a little sheep and follow him today.

May the gentle voice of Jesus drown out the harsh voice of shame today. May the tender eyes of Jesus lift us out of our own critical gaze. And may the secure arms of Jesus uphold us amidst all our sin and weakness.

He hears and sees and knows your deepest longings and desires and is pursuing you today. “O Lord, all my longing is before you…” -Psalm 38:9 “O Lord, you hear the desire of the afflicted; you will strengthen their heart…” -Psalm 10:17

When the disciples were caught in the storm, God was giving them more than they could handle. But he wasn’t shouting, “Hang on, you’ve got this!” from the shoreline, he was right there on the boat saying, “Trust me, I’m with you.”

We often stay stuck because we think knowledge is the answer when what we need most is being known. Listening to a podcast is good but can’t replace being listened to by a real person.

Amen. God uses pastors with all kinds of temperaments. :)

“By day the Lord commands his steadfast love, and at night his song is with me...” -Ps. 42:8 Just like the Israelites, we follow the pillar of cloud by day and pillar of fire by night. But our pillar is a Person and we see him in the psalms.
