Some May/June beetles (Phyllophaga sp.) emerging over the weekend. There are a bunch of species in this group, but I only occasionally see the larvae in well maintained turf in this part of the country. Does anybody still consider them a pest of turf?

Bluegrass billbug adults are close to the finish line. Systemic insecticides targeting larvae inside plant stems are the best approach at this point. extension.entm.purdue.edu/publications/E…

The mid-Atlantic saw some of the largest adult ABW populations in several years and applications targeting susceptible larval stages should be wrapping up soon for most locations. For ABW control strategies from @TurfEnto 👇

Just starting to find a few early instar #billbug larvae in the soil. Most of Indiana, Ohio, Illinois past the stem tunneling phase. Damage will start to show relatively soon. Soil insecticides are the best option at this point. extension.entm.purdue.edu/publications/E…

Fall armyworms are on the march in the Southeast and there have been many reports of damage in 2024. Their presence is fleeting but the impact can be significant. NC State University has tips on how to launch a counterattack 👇

Tropical storms are the big drivers of fall armyworm movement into our region. Here’s a summary of tropical storm activity so far this season. Beryl was our biggest risk to date, but infestations following that storm appear to be spotty and low intensity.

Visited two golf courses with ABW damage in Dayton and Cincinnati area early this week. Noticed weevils crawling on the surface, and found more late stage larvae and pupae, probably the 3rd generation. Drought may lower the damage tolerance and make the situation more severe.

Another weird phenological season. Getting reports of late season hunting billbug damage in southern Indiana. The graphic below should make it make sense, but here’s a link to our billbug bulletin for more: extension.entm.purdue.edu/publications/E…
