ACL injuries are tough for elite athletes in twisting & cutting sports. Fortunately, most can get back after rebuilding the ligament. The time to return depends on associated injuries, like meniscus or cartilage, as well as their ability to complete functional rehab (1/2)

Elite athletes have the benefit of 1:1 trainers & therapists that optimize their ability to return to play. While classic return to play timing is presented at 6-8 months, premature return can risk reinjury or delays in full return to play at their previous level (2/2)

Next day surgery is uncommon but not unheard of. It depends on what was injured. Recent releases suggest Mahomes sustained injuries to two ligaments and the meniscus, not just the ACL. These likely triggered a more urgent approach.

Lindsey Vonn is a warrior. One of those rare athletes who has overcome medical adversities that would sideline other athletes and most people. She knows her body and how it reacts to injury. Both knees have prior injuries and prior surgeries. (1/2)
