A country can be this stupid only until the last “asset” is “stripped” All those great libraries in the UK & the whole country is unable to read its way out of the stupidity of neoclassical economics ? Good Grief ! — C. Brown

In democracies, we're told, politicians exist to reflect and enact the popular will; but the truth is, politicians' primary occupation is *thwarting* the will of the people, in preference to the will of a small group of wealthy, powerful people. 1/

🧵Right-wing extremists like Libs of Tiktok and Charlie Kirk totally concocted the Sydney Sweeney "outrage." The supposed left-wing outrage at Sweeney never happened. Republicans made it up. Republicans have been inventing people to rage against for decades…

As Ken Bensinger and Stuart A. Thompson report, the actual numbers show that almost no one was criticizing Sydney Sweeney for her American Eagle ad. But Libs of TikTok decided to pretend that lefties were angry. A story that was nothing became huge. nytimes.com/2025/08/07/bus…

This tactic, often called nutpicking, is a go-to strategy for RW media. I know this because I was in it for 15 years. Highlighting random people as supposed representatives of evilness or stupidity is the bit. Jesse Watters built his career on ridiculing bikini-clad women.

I finally got tired of nutpicking once I realized that there are plenty of idiots across the political spectrum. But when I looked closer, I realized that Dems ignored their dummies. Republicans voted them into the highest offices. politico.com/magazine/story…

The same thing is true regarding supposed "cancel culture." The actual facts show that Republicans are far more intolerant of free speech. Trump is the king of cancel culture. Republicans invented canceling people. Remember the Red Scare? plus.flux.community/p/theory-of-ch…

As president the first time, Trump frequently declared journalists "the enemies of the people." And he instructed staff members repeatedly to call Disney executives, demanding that Jimmy Kimmel be censored. Can't get more anti-free speech than this. rollingstone.com/politics/polit…

When Republicans are angry at speech they dislike, they order it to be banned. As in Florida and other states that censor LGBT teachers from even disclosing their marital status. 55% of all book ban attempts target public libraries NOT schools ala.org/bbooks/censors…

Matthew Sheffield (@mattsheffield) 's Twitter Profile Photo

When liberals or progressives don't like views, they criticize them on the internet. Sometimes they file reports to social media companies about directly harmful speech such as libel, voting lies, anti-vax lies, or terms of use violations. They don't order speech banned by govt.

Trump signed executive orders banning "improper ideology" from museums. He's removed thousands of web pages honoring historical figures--simply because they were not European Americans. Republicans love censorship. It's their primary intellectual vehicle. nbcnews.com/politics/trump…

Matthew Sheffield (@mattsheffield) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Trump wasn't lying when he said "I love the poorly educated." To think that he's competent, honest, intelligent, or fair is an obvious delusion. And sure enough, in 2024, the people who knew the least about politics were the most supportive of Trump.

The only way Republicans win elections is ignorance. They can't govern. They have no reform ideas. They just slash and burn because they hate the idea of community and shared responsibility. We saw that with their anti-mask and vaccine obsessions during Covid.

Matthew Sheffield (@mattsheffield) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Reactionary Republicans have no affirmative ideas. They cannot build great things, only tear down what they cannot understand. This is why they love censorship and why they must lie constantly. They have to lie and cheat to win. /end

I have not heard any liberal or really anyone other than right wing people talk about the "Sydney Sweeney" outrage. I didn't even know it was a thing until it came up on right wing media.

Not offered 50% contract does allow every employee one year to look for work & allows someone to avoid having to admit an inability to offer a larger amount Old Deluded Don is so mentally ILL the “You are fired in a year” probably worked as a bonus to fool the old fool

Sydney who ? Advert ? Motion advert ? On what media ? Who observed, disapproved, reported disapproval ? Who nut-pick-observed the disapproving reports ? Then again, back to what I was doing.
